TAMIL NADU TOURISM DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION LIMITED


Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation Limited, hereinafter referred to as TTDC, was registered under the Indian Companies Act 1956 as a Company with the Registrar of Companies, Tamil Nadu on the 30th day of June, 1971. It was registred as a Company with the entire shareholding being held by the Government of Tamil Nadu and TTDC continues to be a wholly owned Government of Tamil Nadu Undertaking.

TTDC was established with the main objective to start, operate and promote establishments, undertakings, enterprises and activities of any description whatsoever which in the opinion of the Company are likely to facilitate or accelerate the development of tourism, handicrafts and cottage industries in Tamil Nadu.

The major divisions of the company comprise of the following:

HOTELS SECTION

One of the major activities of TTDC is to own, maintain and run a chain of hotels at important places of tourist interest. Its hotels are mostly named as “Hotel Tamil Nadu”. At present, TTDC is having hotels at the following places:

With the above fleet and also with vehicles hired from private travel agents during increased demand, TTDC operates 38 types of package tours ranging from half-a-day to 14 days. The tours cover not only the major tourist destinations in Tamil Nadu, but also places in other States like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Pondicherry, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Orissa. TTDC also operates special package tours catering to the specific demands of the tourists from Malaysia, Singapore, Mauritius and South Africa. Apart from the above, TTDC has also appointed leading Travel Agents in various parts of the country as its Selling Agents. These agents will sell tour tickets and book accommodation on behalf of TTDC.

RAIL-CUM-ROAD TOUR

Another salient feature is the operation of Rail-cum-Road Tour linking New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. In these tours, the tourists are received at Chennai Railway Station and then taken on a tour of Tamil Nadu in hi-tech coaches and are again given a warm send off at Chennai Railway Station. Confirmed rail tickets are provided to the tourists by TTDC in these tours.

FAIR DIVISION

TTDC is organising the India Tourist and Industrial Fair every year since 1974 in the Island Grounds from 3rd Week of December for a Period of 70 days. State Government Departments & its undertakings, Central Government Departments & its undertakings and other State Government Departments and their undertakings regularly participate in this Fair. Besides these, private firms also participate by way of taking space in the Fair and market their products. For the benefit of visiting public, entertainment, amusement and shopping facilities are provided.

During non-Fair period, the land in Island Grounds is rented out to those who intend to conduct exhibitions, conventions, conferences, Marriages etc.

ONLINE RESERVATION

TTDC has earned the proud distinction of being the first State Tourism Corporation in India to launch the Online Reservation System for its hotels and tours. The online reservation system has been launched at website http://www.ttdconline.com wherein tourists can book any of the TTDC hotels and also package tours instantly from anywhere in the world. The payments can be made by using credit cards and confirmation of bookings obtained instantly. Cancellation can also be made by tourists through online reservation system instantly.

  • The powers, duties of officers and employees:

    TTDC is managed by the Board of Directors with the day-to- day management being looked after by the Chairman and Managing Director. The overall management of TTDC is vested with the Board of Directors headed by the Chairman. The Board delegates its powers suitably to the Chairman & Managing Director for the smooth and efficient functioning of the organisation. The other officers and employees perform their duties with such powers as may be delegated by the Chairman & Managing Director/Board from time to time.

  • The procedure followed in the decision making process, including channels of supervision and accountability:

    The Chairman & Managing Director looks after the management of TTDC on a day-to-day basis and the various Heads of Departments in TTDC Viz. General Manager Board-cum-Secretary, Assistant Chief Manager (Hotels), Systems Analyst, Manager (Administration), Manager (Purchase), Manager (PR), Manager (Transport), Manager (Tour) and Manager (Fair) report to the Chairman & Managing Director and they are supervising the respective departments and are accountable for the performance of the departments under their control. All the purchases and works are finalised as per the provisions of Transparency in Tender Act.

  • The norms set by it for the discharge of its functions:

    Efficiency, integrity, speed in response, team work for evolving as a model organisation. Periodical reports to be submitted to management on monthly basis have been prescribed. Disposal of representations received from public is monitored through Personal Registers maintained by the Assistants working in various divisions of the Corporation.

  • The rules, regulations, instructions, manuals and records held by it or under its control or used by its employees for discharging its functions:

    Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Company, Service Rules for the employees and instructions issued by the Government from time to time form the basis for discharging the functions of the company.

  • A statement of the categories of documents that are held by it or under its control:

    The documents held by the company are the various correspondence between the company with the Government/parties coming in contact during the course of business both commercial and technical agreements, Bank Guarantees, data relating to the Officers and employees, Minutes of Board meetings and Annual General Meetings.

  • The particulars of any arrangement that exists for consultation with, or representation by the members of the public in relation to the formulation of its policy or implementation thereof:

    The suggestions/complaints received from the Public or parties dealing with TTDC are given due consideration and the views so expressed are considered in formulation of Policies or implementation thereof from time to time.

  • A statement of the Boards, Councils, Committees and other bodies consisting of two or more persons constituted as its part or for the purpose of its advice, and as to whether meetings of those boards, councils, committees and other bodies are open to the public, or the minutes of such meetings are accessible for public:

    The Board of Directors is the highest authority comprising of Directors and headed by the Chairman appointed by the Government from time to time. There are various other Committees such as Sub-Committee of the Board of Directors constituted or specific purposes and Departmental Promotion Committee, etc. of officers of TTDC constituted from time to time and these meetings are not open or accessible to the Public. The minutes are also not accessible to public.
