ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES

Mamallapuram[65kms] : This was created by the Pallava Dynasty and it was their seaport during their regime. mamallapuram650 - 750 AD was considered as the Golden Age of Pallava dynasty. The Pallava King Narasimha Varman I , was a great wrestler with the title MAMALLAN, hence it was named MAMALLAPURAM. This has an exotic and long Sea Shore, Temples in the form of Chariots called rathas, mandapams (cave sanctuaries), huge open-air reliefs such as the famous and excellent 100 foot long “Arjuna Penance”, and the temple of Rivage, with innumerable glorious sculptures of Lord Siva. Sculpture and Art college, Sculpture Workshops, Handicrafts, long and beautiful sea shore attracts millions of tourist throughout the year. You need not have a season or reason to visit Mamallapuram. This site was included in the World Heritage Monuments list of UNESCO in 1984.

Sadras [65kms] : Sadras was once a Dutch settlement and the remains of a FORT built by the Dutch can be seen here. Inside the fort is a cemetery with some old carved tomb stones and it is a lovely sea shore area.

Uthiramerur : Popular Sundara Varada Perumal temple is located here. This temple is about 1200 years old built by Nandhi Varma with the help of Paramesa Vathan extremely skilled Vasthu Sasthra Expert. The main deity in this temple is Lord Sundara Varada Perumal. This temple has numerous inscriptions about Chola and Vijayanagaram regime. The rituals in this temple are performed as per Krishna Yajuveda Vaikasana Agamam. Sri Kamakshi sametha Sri Kailashanathar temple dedicated to Lord Siva is also located at Uthiramerur. The temple is believed to have been constructed during the reign of Uthiravarma Chola.

Kooram : The place has two ancient temples, one dedicated to Lord Vishnu called as Adikesava Perumal and the other dedicated to Vaishnavite Alwar called as Koorathazhwar. This is the birth place of Koorathazhwar. The temples are of archaeological importance owing to their ancient nature, architecture and tradition, a treasure to be protected for ever.

Singaperumal Koil [44kms] : Singaperumal Koil is on the way to Chenglepattu from Chennai. Padaladhri Naraisimha Perumal Temple and the area popularly known as Singaperumal is located here. It is where Narasimhar gave darshan to Jabaali Maharishi when the Maharishi performed thapas and as he wished Lord Narasimhar gave his divine darshan.
