kattabommanKattabomman Memorial Fort, Panchalankuruchi : It is 25 kms from Thoothukudi. Veerapandiya Kattabomma Karuthayya Nayakkar or Veerapandiya Kattabomman was the chieftain of the Panchalankuruchi in the freedom struggle against the British. He was hanged by the British in 1799 at Kayatharu. The Memorial Fort built at Panchalankuruchi was built in the year 1974 by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The Fort Complex houses the temple of Devi Jakkamma, hereditary Goddess worshipped by the Kattabomman Family. Cemetery of the British soldiers is located near the fort. The Archaeological Department of Tamil Nadu maintains these monuments . Apart from the statue of Kattabomman, half size statue of Oomathurai, Thanathipathi Pillai, Sundaralingam and Vellaia Thevar are also found in the Memorial. There are seven arches in honour of Goddess Jakkamma from Kurukkusalai to the Fort. Festivals are held in the months of January and second week of May, when thousands of people gather here for the festival. Tourist Rest house is available here. Frequent bus services are available from Thoothukudi.

Srivaikundam Anaicut : This anaicut is 420 mts long and was built between 1869-73. This has 8ft storage capacity used for cultivation of 26,000 acres. This is the 8th Anaicut on Thamaraparani river and serves as road bridge too.

Nava Thirupathi :  Nine special vaishnavite temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu is located within 30 kms radius of Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli Districts. All these temples are on the banks of Tamiraparani. It is a priceless formation of Hindu Heritage. It is believed that Saint Nammalwar was born in Thirunagari . It is also said that each these temples are associated with Navagrahas and one who worships here will be relieved of all ill- effects of the planetary position.


Alwar Thirunagari : Sri Adinathaperumal Temple enshrines Lord Vishnu’s parathuvamas one who is the beginning and end of everything. Two rare specimen of art that can be found here are the Musical Pillars and Stone Nadhaswaram. Alwar Thirunagari is said to be associated with Guru in the navagraha planetary position.
