Killiyur Falls : This 3000 ft water falls is just 3Km away from the Yercaud Lake. Best suited to be visited after the Monsoon seasons.

The Servaroyan Temple : It is situated on the flat top of the Servaroyan Hill. It is a narrow cave temple dedicated to Lord Shervaroyan and Goddess Kaveri. As it is believed that the temple cave bottom touches river Kavery. Goddess Kaveri is worshipped as the presiding deity by all the villagers in and around this region. The Tribals gather here in thousands to celebrate their Annual Festival in the month of May every Year.

The Montfort School : The Montfort School for boys & girls and Sacred Heart convent for Girls are the two famous Educational Institutions in Yercaud imparting education. The Alumini of these schools include many notable personalities.

The Retreat : It was started in 1945 by the Brothers of Don Bosco. This institution serves as a Novitiate House where students of the Religious Order stay and study.


History of Silk

Historical evidence shows that silk was discovered in China and later the industry spread into other parts of the world. According to Chinese records, the discovery of silk happened around 2640 BC. It is evident from history that the silk industry spread into India around 140 BC from China, through Tibet.

Yercaud Lake

India is the only country in the world to produce all the four known varieties of silk, viz., Mulberry, Eri, Tasar and Muga. Among the four varieties of silk produced, Mulberry accounts for 69.09%, Tasar 9.4%, Eri 20.8% and Muga 0.59% of the total raw silk production of 31,931 Metric Tonnes during 2017-2018

Why Yercaud

Yercaud is a hill station in Salem District, in Tamil Nadu, India. It is located in the Shevaroys range of hills in the Eastern Ghats. It is situated at an altitude of 1515 meters (4970 ft) above sea level. The hill station is named owing to the abundance of forest near the lake, the name signifying Lake Forest..

Yercaud is one of the most famous Tourist place in Tamilnadu. So it is visited by more number of peoples from all parts of Tamilnadu and other States nearby. And also tourists from abroad visits Yercaud. Because of these reasons Department of Sericulture, Tamilnadu has established Seri-Tourism Centre “Silk World” in Yercaud.

The nearest city is Salem, 32 kms away. The State owned Transport Corporation, TNSTC Salem, operates buses from Yercaud to major cities.

Seri-Tourism Centre “Silk World” salient features

Seri-Tourism center “Silk World” is established in Government Silk farm, Yercaud, between the Rose Garden and the View point called “Lady’s Seat” in Yercaud. In this centre all activities of Sericulture viz., Mulberry Cultivation, Silkworm Rearing, Silk Reeling, Silk Twisting and Silk Weaving are exhibited in order to explain the processes of Silk production. Apart from this various other amusement activities are present for entertaining the kids and adults.

There are many 3-D tricky arts in the arena like Silk moth presenting a gift on a stage, waterfalls, a girl taking water from the pond. The visitors can enjoy them by taking photographs which resemble naturally. Yercaud Lake

Scientific equipments like Newton’s Cradle, Snake Pendulum, Gravity Well, Infinity well, Optical Illusion, Augmented reality and Virtual reality videos are provided in order to cover the kids to understand the scientific reasons behind them. And many more play items are also available in the park.

81 Km: from Yercaud. The famous Rock Fort is on the single rock Hillock [also known as Saligramam]. Famous Hanuman Temple with one of the tallest worshipped Statute in the Country is also located here. It is visited by lakhs of devotees throughout the year from different parts of the country.


74Km from Yercaud. This temple is dedicated to Lord Ardhanareeswarar - unique concept of Saivism highlights the importance of Equality of Women with Men and to mark this concept, the deity is in the form of  Half Siva and Half Sakthi. Lord is also called as Umai or Bagan.

Salem town

Is 33Km from Yercaud. It is the biggest Town of the area and famous for its Steel Plant , Hand Woven Textiles and Sagoo manufacture. Salem is also famous worldwide for its Special variety of Mangoes. Local markets will be flooded with this special Salem Mangoes during the season.
