Aruppukkottai : It is 18kms west of Virudunagar. It was also called as Arumbu [buds] kottai, [fort] because this area grows abundance of Jasmine buds. Manamadurai-Virudunagar railway lines pass through this town. Majority of people in Aruppukottai are weavers, hence handloom textile industry flourishes well here. Small scale industries like colour dying factories, oil mills, rice mills, straw boards manufacturing units and Ginning factory are found all over in this area.

Thiruchuli :  It was known as Thiruchulliyal. It is 15 kms from Aruppukottai. It is also the Birthplace of Sri Ramana Maharishi the simple and most revered saint of the 20th century. The house in which this saint was born turned into a memorial. The other religious attraction to this place is the temple of Bhuminathasamy temple. This is one of 14 Padal Petra Sthalam of Lord Siva in Pandiya Nadu. Saivaite saint Sundaramoorthy Nayanar had visited this temple and sung hymns in praise of the lord. Another important temple is Thirumeninathar Swamy temple, built in an area of 43500 sq ft, maintained for long time by the Rajas of Ramanathapuram. It houses Ashta Lingam [8 lingams] and 10 theerthams [tanks] in an around the shrine.

Sattur :  It is 24 Kms from Virudunagar. It is believed, because this area was forest zone and location of a Sathan [also known as Ayyanar] temple, it was also called as Sathanur. Sattur is the shortened version of Sathanur. There are many factories manufacturing Matches, nibs, cotton ginning and many others products. It is also a trading hub for Chilies, Black gram and corriander.
