Annamalai Wildlife sanctuary
Palani :
It is located at an altitude of 150m , 100 kms from Coimbatore. One of the special Abode of Murugan called Arupadaiveedu. Built by King Cheraman Peruman. Murugan is called as Dandayuthapani. The special feature of the main deity is that, it is made of Nava Pashanam or Nine Herbal poison [processed - and poison removed]. It is one of the Sidha Elixirs available for us. Electrically operated Winch service is available to transport devotees up the hill. Thai Poosam and Panguni Uthiram are important festivals of this temple.

Bannari : 300 years ago this was known as Dhandanyakkan forest and it is popularly called as “BANNARI”. Temple of Bannari Mariamman located here is, 14 kms from Sathyamangalam. Elephants, Wild pigs, Bears, Deer, Hares, Monkey and Peacocks are found in the nearby forest area. Special buses are operated from Sathyamangalam and Coimbatore on festival days and holidays.

Kodumudi : It is 40 kms from Erode and 105 kms from Coimbatore. The special feature of this town is : Lord Siva Called Muchukundeswarar, Vishnu called as Veera Narayan Perumal and Brahma are installed as Trinity, in the same temple complex and it is one of the important temple of the District. 10 day Chithirai Utsavam [April-May] and Panguni Uthiram [Mar–Apr] are most important festivals of the temple. Turmeric and Sugarcane are the main crops of this village. Rice Mills and Paper Mills too are located here.

Pollachi : This town is about 40 kms from Coimbatore and an important Commercial Hub. Tender and ripe coconuts are sent to different parts of the Country from here. . Hence it is called as “Coconut City” too. Asia’s largest Jaggery market is located here. This area has a pleasant climate due to its proximity to the Western Ghats. Popular Mariamman and Lord Subhramnya temple is the religious attraction of this town.

Valparai
Avinashi : It’s old name is pikkoigul. It is believed and called as the Varanasi of the South. The Avinashi Lingeswarar temple located here was built by Sundarapandiyan and visited by Saivite Saint Sundaramurthy Nayanar. This is one of the most popular temples of this District for its Architecture.


Valparai : It is 100 kms from Coimbatore and 60 kms from Pollachi. Azhiyar – Valparai route has 40 hair pin bends. It is a Hill Station located at an altitude of 3500ft on the Anamalai Hills Range of the Western Ghats landscaped with Tea Plantations, remaining area is the out of bound virgin forest zone.

Annamalai Wildlife sanctuaryAnamalai Wildlife Santuary : It is located at an altitude of 1400 meters at the Top Slip. This was notified as Wild life Sanctuary in the year 1974 and established in the year 1976. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited this area during 1961. Later on renamed in honour of the former Prime Minister and it is now called as INDIRA GANDHI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY and NATIONAL PARK. The National Park is 108 sq.kms in the core area of the total 958 Sq. Kms sanctuary zone. This was declared as Project Tiger in the year 2008. Elephants, Gaur, Tiger, Panther, Sloth Bear, Pangolin, Black Headed Oriole, Green Pigeon and Civet cat can be seen in this Sanctuary. Karian and Anaikunthi Sholas, Grass Hills, Waterfalls, Groves, Teak forests, Estates, Dams and Reservoirs add beauty to Anamalai Hills and attracts visitors in large numbers. Elephant Safari and Van services are available at the Top Slip to take the tourists around the Sanctuary.
