Srirangam Cauvery
and Cauvery cannot be separated from each other. Earlier, this was called as Vellithirumutha gramam. It is 7 kms from the Town. This is a 600 acre River Island Town. The Identity of this town is the Gigantic Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple, established in a 156 acre land, is a great vaishnavite Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This is one of the 108 Divya Desams. The enclosures are guarded by thick and huge rampart walls. There are 21 magnificent and huge towers. Apart from 13 tired Rajagopuram [ completed in 1987] all the Gopurams are said to have been built between 14th and 17th centuries. This temple underwent many changes during the rule of Cholas, Chera, Pandiyas, Hoysalas, Vijayanagar kings and Nayaks of Madurai.
Tiruchi Fort

Thiruvanaikkaval [Thiru+Anai+Kaval] : It is 7 kms from the town and popularly called as Tiruvanaikoil too. This Jambukeswarar-Akilandeswari temple is dedicated to Lord Siva. This temple is one of the Pancha Bhootha Sthalam [five elements of nature] representing water. The Siva Lingam in the Sanctum Sanctorum is reported to be submerged in the water that flows from a subterranean spring into the Sanctum Sanctorum. Because an Elephant once worshiped Lord Siva under the holy Jambu Tree, the God gets the name Jambukeswarar.

Amma Mandapam Bathing Ghat, Srirangamis an ancient dam built across the river Kaveri in South India. Kallanai is situated in Tamil Naduin the district of Trichy. This dam was constructed in AD 2nd century by the Chola king Karikalan which is located 15 km away from Tiruchirapalli. Kallanai Dam is the fourth older water rerouting system in the world which is still in existence.

It is exactly situated near river bank of Cauvery near Melur, Srirangam. This park has beautiful garden, fountain, largest butterfly glass house, fountain and hut to take rest and have food. The Park also had a 1.2 KM walkway for the visitors. The garden is full of nectar flowers and host plants to attract butterflies. A big blue tiger butterfly sculpture can be seen at entrance in the lawn. The garden has fountains, artificial pounds, suspended bridges, butterfly houses, sculptures of caterpillars, butterflies to attract many visitors..

The park also includes a 'Nakshatra Vanam', or a collection of trees that corresponds to the Zodiac signs and stars in Indian astrology. This park features 27 tree or plant species corresponding to 27 stars of the Hindu almanac and 12 tree or plant species corresponding to the Zodiac signs. Visitor can plant a tree at free of cost according to their sign.

Lord Brahma, the authority for the Jupiter planet, is the presiding deity of this temple and appears in turmeric paste dressing on all Thursdays here. It is the general belief of the people that the divine blessings of Brahma would fall only on such persons whose bad destinies would change for good. A/m. Erumbeeswarar Temple, located in the town of Thiruverumbur is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is perched atop a 60 feet (18 m) hill and can be reached by a fleet of granite steps. Since the temple is located on the top of the hill, it is locally called "Malai Kovil". (Ph: 0431 - 2510241)

St.Mary’s Cathedral Church is located near Melaputhur, 2 kms away from Tiruchirappalli Central Bus Stand and the Railway Junction. It is the headquarter church of the Catholic Diocese of Tiruchirappall. It is one of the oldest Dioceses in Tamilnadu and India as well. The new Cathedral has built in 2015 is very magnificent and it stands in the place of the old Cathedral, which was 175 years old (1841 – 2015). It is also the “Mother Church” of five dioceses such as Thoothukudi, Madurai, Palayamkottai, Sivagangai and Dindigul. Located around 5 km from the bus stand, this temple is unique because there is no roof for the presiding deity as it is believed that the temple goddess had saved the people from the sand-rain and turbulent wind showered at this place by the curse of the Lord Shiva on the request of the pious devotee saint Sarama Munivar. Sprawling over an area of 50,000 sq. ft, Akkaraipatti Sai Baba Temple is one of the largest temples for Shirdi Sai Baba in Asia. It was consecrated near Samayapuram, Trichy in a small hamlet called Akkaraipatti. The magnificent Akkaraipatti Sai Baba Temple is situated about 4 km from the Samayapuram toll plaza on the Chennai-Trichy National Highway. Variety of frescoes demonstrating the manifestation of Sai Baba are painted on the interior false ceiling of the temple which is simply stunning. The whole temple complex looks no less than an architectural splendour adorned with traditional ornamental works. The exterior domes enhanced with gold foiled sheets catch the sight of every onlooker.

tidle Holy Redeemer's Basilica, Palakkarai (3 km)
The Basilica of the Holy Redeemer, Tiruchirappalli is one of the eight Roman Catholic Basilicas of Tamil Nadu. It is located 3 kms. from Central Bus Stand near Palakkarai. The place where the Holy Redemeer’s Basilica is built and the surrounding lands were given by Diwan Kanjamalai Mudaliar as a token of gratitude to Rev.Fr.Goris. The Church was constructed in 1886 and declared as Basilica by the Pope Benedict XVI, Rome in 2006.The tower of the Church has 5 tiers measuring 128 feet in height, 192 feet in length and 55 feet in breadth. The Church boasts of Gothic architecture and is one of the iconic symbols of Trichy city. As many miracles took place through Mother of Perpetual Succour, people from different religions started coming here every Wednesday.(Ph.No. 0431 – 2201200).


Grand Anaicut :

Grand Anaicut Called as Kallanai is 19 kms from the city. This 330m long and 30m wide Dam, is a great engineering marvel of the yester years, for its strength and excellence. This was built by the great Chola king Karikala Cholan in the 2nd century. In 1804 Captain Caldwell conducted a study on the Anaicut and made suggestions to increase the water usage for irrigation. The Lower Anaicut built by Sir Arthur Cotton in 19th century AD across Coleroon, a major tributary of River Kaveri, is said to be a replicated structure of Kallanai.

Mukkombu :

It is 18 kms from the city and is called as the Upper Anaicut or Mukkombu Dam. This 685 m long dam, in three sections, was constructed in the 19th century by Sir Arthur Cotton inspired by Kallanai. River kollidam branches off from Kaveri at Mukkombu. This is visited by thousands of people for its lush greenery and scenic beauty.

Vayaloor :

It is 8 kms from the town , also called as Kumara Vayalur . Popular Murugan Temple is set amidst green landscape. Skanda Sashti, Thai Poosam, Panguni Utthiram are important festivals of this temple. .

Samayapuram :

This is 20 kms from the town and an important pilgrim centre famous for the Samayapuram Mariamman Temple dedicated to Goddessess Mariamman. There is a legend that King Vijayaraya Chakkaravarthi built the present day form of the temple. Chithirai Car Festival [Apr-May] is the famous festival of this temple.


This is a forest area around 72 kms from Tiruchirapalli at the foothill of the Kollimalai. This is a cool, green and beautiful forest area with waterfalls that makes Puliancholai suitable for a one day excursion.

Tiruvellarai :

It is 25 kms from the town. The temple is on 50 ft tall hill of white rock, hence this was called as Thiru Vellai Parai [white rock]. Yogi named Pundarikakshan used to offer Tulasi every day from his nandavanam to God and Goddess in the temple Pleased by Yogi’s bakthi, Perumal blessed him. Perumal is also called as Pundarikakshan. Tirumangai Azhwar sang hymns on Pundarikakshan here.


Another abode of Lord Vishnu, on the northern bank of Cauvery River, just 24 kms from the town. The Lord here is called Prasanna Venkateshwarar. People visit this temple in thousands and offer prayers to Perumal, as they believe that he cures mental illness.

Pachamalai :

Pachamalai is a green hill range 80 kms from Tiruchirapalli. It is at an altitude between 500 to 1000 m. It is a haven for the tribal population of this region with unique culture and lifestyle. Thenpara nadu, Kombainadu ,Aathi Nadu and Vannadu are some villages here. Small Streams and falls, trekking are tourist attractions at Pachamalai.

Government Museum : This is located in Rani Mangammal Mandram, Trichy-2. Bronze and stone sculptures are on display here.

This is 4 kms from the town, near the Main Guard Gate. This is one more important Islamic holy destination of the town. The big and elegant Dome was built in Indo-Saracenic Architecture. Urs is the famous festival of this Dargah.
